Village Hotel Dudley Hotel Review
March 3, 2018Amy Trumpeter
My aunty and uncle were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary – congratulations Aunty Diane and Uncle David! We booked the fabulous Village Hotel Dudley to stay overnight in the Midlands, and I’m here today to share my thoughts on the hotel. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay with good food, central location and excellent value for money.
Village Hotel Dudley – Location
The Village Hotel Dudley is central and easy to find, positioned on the Castlegate leisure complex. It is surrounded by numerous restaurants and a cinema, so you will have plenty to eat and to do. It is better to drive if possible. Although accessible by public transport, it can be a bit of a faff – you wait around a lot for buses in the Midlands! There is plenty of parking and a number of Disabled Bays near the door.
Nearby attractions include Dudley Castle and the Black Country Museum, great for history buffs! You can also easily get to Birmingham, which is only 8 miles away. The Village Hotel Dudley is connected with an excellent road network. There are also buses to Birmingham from near the hotel and trains from Wolverhampton.
Arriving and Checking In at Village Hotel Dudley
First off, we got an excellent deal – £84 for 2 people with an evening meal plus Prosecco, and a full English breakfast the following morning. Excellent Value! If you book direct through the Village Hotel website, you will see many of these offers, particularly in advance of special occasions such as Mother’s Day and Easter. Check out their website here.
Secondly, the staff were really friendly and helpful. As soon as we arrived, a nice guy called Nathan greeted us. We could tell we were in the Midlands… ‘Alright!’ he said as he welcomed us. The crazy thing about this place is that everyone sounds like my Dad! He had a nice chat with us enquiring as to why we were staying and what we were up to. He also added on an extra trip to the gym and pool for us. We didn’t use it as we were so limited for time unfortunately, but I have used it before, and can confirm that the spa and pool facilities are extremely relaxing.
Village Hotel Dudley – The Rooms
What I like about the rooms at the Village Hotel Dudley is that they are extremely clean, modern and colourful. Instead of tiles, most of the bathrooms have a perspex wall over colourful wallpaper.
All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and Flat Screen TV. They also provide free Wifi, making it perfect for both business and personal stays. All rooms have complimentary shower gel and shampoo.
We were offered an upgrade to a Club room for an extra £20, but didn’t feel that it was worth it for us, as our time was limited, so we wouldn’t necessarily make use of the coffee machine, Sky Sports or leisure facilities. However, if we had been staying longer and not rushing off to a family event, we may have upgraded.
Village Grill Review
We ate at the Village Grill, which included a main, dessert and a glass of Prosecco. Again, the staff were lovely. I ate a perfectly cooked salmon with rice, followed by a sticky toffee pudding. It was extremely filling, and again, I must emphasise the value, as we got this included with the room.
Leisure Facilities at the Village Hotel Dudley
The hotel offers a leisure package with club rooms. You can also upgrade your standard room to include the leisure facilities by paying just £5 extra.
The air conditioned gym has state of the art equipment and fitness classes with dedicated instructors. There is also a 25m pool, a sauna and steam room, which is great for relaxing after a hard core day of exploring. You will also find Squash courts available if you enjoy squash.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Village Hotel Dudley. We didn’t have the best view from our room, but then again, we didn’t upgrade for this. My only other criticism was that the food in the restaurant was a little slow to arrive, but even still, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Considering the price of just £84 for two – that’s just £42 each for room, evening meal, drink and breakfast, you absolutely can’t beat it.
